Overwatch 2's story missions may have been cancelled

Back in May 2023, Blizzard Entertainment announced the cancellation of the PvE mode of Overwatch 2, which was promised before the game's launch. It was then replaced by what was to be a series of story missions. At present, however, there's only three of these.

In an article, Kotaku has collected statements from several former Blizzard devs on the subject, and it's fair to say that the future looks quite bleak. First of all, one source stated that Activision was hoping for some "serious numbers" from the missions, and that otherwise, their future was far from assured. In fact, this PvE component "did not do well at all", be it in terms of revenue of community criticism.

Add to this the fact that almost the entire team in charge of this was reportedly fired off with Microsoft job cuts last January, and the future of story missions looks very uncertain.
