Microsoft lays off 1,900 people in its gaming division
, by Thibaut
Even if we're used to sad waves of redundancies in the video game industry, Microsoft has just broken all records in this field.
Indeed, the IGN website reports that the American firm will be laying off 1,900 people (out of the company's 22,000) in its gaming division alone. This obviously concerns Xbox, but also ZeniMax (Bethesda) and Activision Blizzard King.
In an internal e-mail, Phil Spencer assures us that the staff affected will receive severance pay. Following this announcement, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming added that:
"Looking ahead, we'll continue to invest in areas that will grow our business and support our strategy of bringing more games to more players around the world. Although this is a difficult moment for our team, I'm as confident as ever in your ability to create and nurture the games, stories and worlds that bring players together."
