Developers of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum talk about the final quality of the game
, by Thibaut
With a Metacritic average of 34%, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is one of the lowest-rated games of 2023. A failure so big that has even forced the Daedelic studio to withdraw from game development altogether.
In a recent survey, several developers spoke out on the subject. They point to a derisory budget of just 15 million euros for an AAA title, and an intense crunch lasting several months. Overtime wasn't always paid, and a great deal of pressure was put on the shoulders of the youngest employees.
What's more, the apologetic press release by publisher Nacon when the game was released was allegedly generated by the AI ChatGPT all without the consent of Daedelic's teams.
