If we thought that Microsoft's legal victory against the FTC would definitively conclude the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, this will clearly not be the case. Indeed, the soap opera is set to drag on for several more weeks.
The $69 billion purchase agreement was valid until July 18. Once this date has passed, either company has the opportunity to review the terms of the merger, and may, if it wishes, modify the financial conditions or withdraw from the agreement altogether.
According to a Reuters report, the two companies are currently negotiating an extension to their buyout agreement, a worst-case scenario that is unlikely to materialize. This would allow them to wait for the end of negotiations between Microsoft and the CMA in the UK.
