I's a practice that has unfortunately become commonplace with the latest video games. Like Diablo IV, the much-anticipated PAYDAY 3 will require a permanent internet connection in order to play.
This requirement applies to both multiplayer and single-player modes. Starbreeze justified its decision by stating that the use of the Unreal Engine, as well as the presence of cross-play and cross-progression functionalities has forced the studio to take this decision.
