A former Perfect Dark dev says the demo was partly real

Despite it ended up being cancelled, Perfect Dark is still unleashing passions, and conflicting reports cross paths over the gameplay trailer released in June 2024.
Indeed, a Kotaku journalist claimed in recent hours that the demo in question wasn't real and that the footage had been pre-rendered. Now Adam McDonald, a former level designer on the game, has come forward to say otherwise.
In a message posted on BlueSky, McDonald clarifies that the famous demo was "in-engine". He was one of three designers who worked on it. He admits that there were "false elements" in this extract, and that the gameplay systems worked "just enough" to render the sequence satisfactorily.
"We quickly made real design decisions so as not to knowingly lie to players about what the game was going to be like. The parkour is real, and much of the hacking was too."
"The combat part is “real” in the sense that someone actually performed all the actions in the video. But the combat system was designed to be played exactly that way and didn't work well if you played any other way."
