The RX 9070 now boasts improved performance thanks to the latest drivers

The RX 9070 XT has got significant performance gains thanks to driver updates made since its launch.
Hardware Unboxed tested the card with the latest drivers, comparing the results with those obtained at launch on March 6. Sixteen games were evaluated, with the same configuration including a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and DDR5-6000 memory. The RTX 5070 Ti was also included, to measure differences related to drivers and not to any game updates.
In some titles, both cards made progress. However, the RX 9070 XT showed notable increases in several games such as Spider-Man Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy or Counter-Strike 2, with gains of up to 27%. These improvements enabled the card to match or exceed the 5070 Ti, sometimes reversing the initial results.
The RTX 5070 Ti saw some progress, but also slight declines, depending on the game. On Space Marine 2, a patch resulted in a 36% increase. Some games, such as Starfield or Dragon Age: The Velguard, showed no change at all.
On average, at 1440p, the RX 9070 XT improved by 9%, compared with 2.5% for the 5070 Ti. The Radeon thus moves from a 2.5% lag to a 3% lead. At 4K, the differences are small, with almost equivalent performance. The biggest gains for the RX 9070 XT were seen at lower resolutions, where the first RDNA4 drivers were less optimized.
