Steam now warns customers that they are buying just a license to the game
, by Thibaut
Here's a little change in Valve's store. A new law introduced in California is forcing Valve to be more transparent with its customers.
From now on, just before paying for a game on Steam, there's a message that reads as follows.
"A purchase of a digital product grants a license for the product on Steam."
This is a way of clarifying that you don't own the game, but only a license that may one day expire. Previously, this info was only present in the store's general terms and conditions.
Although this change was originally intended only for California, Valve has apparently decided to be proactive and is now displaying this message in several countries.
