Game Freak has fallen victim to a massive leak
, by Thibaut
The Japanese studio known for the Pokémon games was the victim of a computer attack last August. Although the info is only now coming to light, we have learned that around 1 TB of data has been compromised.
This means that approximately 2,000 details concerning Game Freak employees have found their way online. This unauthorized access has important consequences for both current and former Game Freak employees, with full names, postal addressess, telephone numbers and even e-mail addresses having found its way to the Internet. But that's not all...
The stolen data also contains the source code for several Pokémon games and details about future titles in the franchise. We got info on a game codenamed "Synapse", which would be a Pokémon MMORPG developed in tandem with an external studio. And even some information on Pokémon Legends: Z-A and unannounced games...
There's even the "Pokémon Movie 24**, which would be a more "adult" reboot. However, this may have been cancelled. Known by the code name "Bauer", this film was due for release in 2024 and it dealt with difficult themes such as bullying and suicide. There's also a new anime (codenamed "Reload") and yet another Detective Pikachu movie in production.
