Square Enix confirms disappointing sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI and Foamstars
, by Thibaut
Square Enix will be changing its ways in the coming years. The Japanese company is preparing to completely overhaul its internal organization. Projects have been cancelled and staff will be made redundant.
According to Bloomberg, Takashi Kiryu, president of Square Enix, has stated that sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI and Foamstars have fallen short of expected revenues and profits.
The publisher now expects to post an operating profit of 40 billion yen (or 236.3 million euros) instead of the 57 billion yen (or 337.4 million euros) originally forecast.
Final Fantasy XVI sold well at the time of release, but failed to maintain positive momentum over the long term. On the other hand, Foamstars and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth simply failed to meet their internal targets at launch.
