Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail launches on July 2

Square Enix's MMORPG next expansion release date has just been announced. Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail comes out on consoles and PC on July 2, 2024, with early access beginning on June 28.

Of course, there will be a Collector's Edition available, containing a map, a notebook, a figure and a special box, but there's a pretty big surprise here. Among the in-game items offered with the pre-order and the collector's edition, there are some straight out of Final Fantasy IX.

There's no reason behind these references to the franchise's ninth entry, though rumor has it that a remake may be in the works.
