The Sims 5 will be free-to-play

Thanks to its switch to a free-to-play business model in October 2022, The Sims 4 has attracted a whole new audience. A winning bet for Electronic Arts, who intends to repeat this success with the fifth entry in the franchise.

In an article published on its blog, the American publisher has confirmed that The Sims 5 (Project Rene) will be available as a free download from launch, with no subscription being required to play. The title will also be devoid of in-game purchases, and will not incorporate an energy system to perform actions (as is often the case on mobile).

Of course, there will be lots of expansions to pay for.
