Destiny's future is in no way tied to the success of Marathon

This week, in a lengthy blog post, Bungie discussed the future of Destiny, as well as the outlook for Marathon. Josh Deane, the studio’s product lead, wanted to clarify a point that had apparently been misunderstood by the community.

In fact, Deane stated on X that players do not need to buy Marathon to support Destiny 2. "In no way is the Destiny plan contingent upon Marathon," he said in a response to a user.

He even added that fans shouldn’t feel pressured to buy Marathon as a sort of "donation" to benefit Destiny. Ultimately, Bungie wants to ensure it properly serves both communities while preparing for the future.

"Yes, just looking to serve players that love both/either worlds while we build the future.

But definitely not asking players to support x to get y, and not building the plan that way.

Just personally believe that there is an empowering force for that future if there is shared encouragement, and respect, as a Bungie community!"
