XBOX has launched a very aggressive marketing campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on its consoles

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases this Friday, October 23, 2026, and appears to come with one of the best single-player campaign of recent years. The game isn't included in XBOX Game Pass, and Microsoft wants to sell as many copies as possible.

Now, when a player turns on their XBOX Series X or XBOX Series S, the home screen is themed around Infinity Ward’s FPS. An animated background has been set by default, and several menu tiles prompt users to buy the game, including the Weapons Chest Edition for €109.99. This marketing approach is very aggressive, and even invasive, for many users. Fortunately, it’s possible to partially disable this promotional display.

To do this, go to the console settings, then to General, Personalization, and My Backgrounds. There, uncheck the box labeled 'Show event-themed backgrounds'. Your usual background will reappear, but the prompts to purchase Modern Warfare 4 will remain in place.
