A politician calls on the Canadian Government to save BioWare

With over 30 years in business, BioWare had become one of the most iconic studios in the video game industry. Its strong reputation has inevitably been tarnished by the quality of its latest releases, such as Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Despite these setbacks, the Edmonton, Canada-based company had retained a special place in the hearts of RPG fans. That’s why it’s hard to see such a legend disappear. Internet users are calling for the company to be bought out, while others are calling for its franchises to be acquired. There have been numerous calls for a rescue, even from the highest echelons of Canadian politics.

In fact, Avi Lewis, the leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party, is now urging the government to help BioWare’s developers buy back their studio and restore its independence.

"The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love."

He also stated that Canada should be able to retain control of its major video game studios by entrusting them solely to large Canadian corporations. Whatever happens, it seems unlikely that BioWare will regain its independence. The developer would lack its licenses, which still belong to Electronic Arts. Its survival would therefore not be guaranteed.
