Gears of War: E-Day would have cost XBOX over $500 million, and that's without marketing

The road to profitability looks long and, let's be for real here, completely out of reach for Gears of War: E-Day. A new report cites a colossal budget for The Coalition’s title, which will likely never recoup its costs.

While rumors had already suggested a budget exceeding $400 million, Kotaku went even further by claiming that it would actually exceed $500 million. It’s worth noting that this amount doesn’t even include marketing costs.

According to the latest figures from Alinea Analytics, Gears of War: E-Day reportedly sold only 230,000 copies worldwide. Revenue is said to have reached $37 million. This figure reportedly includes purchases of the €30 upgrade to the Premium Edition. Many players, of course, used their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to try out the game.

Suffice it to say that Gears of War: E-Day will likely be a financial drain for Xbox.
