Bungie goes back to Destiny, and Marathon is getting some changes
, by Thibaut
Without any prior notice, Bungie spoke out earlier this week. The American studio wanted to adress its future and the projects the devs will be focusing on.
At the start of the video, Poria Torkan, studio director, and Josh Deane, product lead, apologized to the community, stating that they had "lost sight of" their goals. Creating exciting worlds and building a community around them remain the cornerstones of Bungie. As a result, several decisions have been made by the company’s leadership.
First, Destiny will be coming back, starting with the return of campaigns, raids, and destinations in Destiny 2, "which should never have been removed." This will be the first step in this major restoration. Next, Bungie intends to offer new stories and new Destiny games. All of this will, of course, take time.
Regarding Marathon, Torkan stated that the PvP shooter was never intended to replace Destiny. As a result, despite a strong launch, the game failed to attract enough players. To address this, the team behind the game will transform it into "a more in-depth survival experience." As Marathon marks its first anniversary, Bungie aims to strengthen both the PvE and PvP components. A detailed roadmap will be shared soon.
Finally, the studio has overhauled its internal operations by streamlining its priorities and scaling back its competitive ambitions. The stated goal is to restore a sense of stability within the workforce. Poria Torkan knows that regaining players’ trust will take time, but he intends to demonstrate this positive change through Bungie’s games by meeting players’ expectations. Again, it will be a long road ahead.
