(UPD) Kojima Productions claims its relationship with PlayStation remains strong

Several other reports and rumors have surfaced in the wake of this official statement from Kojima Productions. First, during an interview with IGN, Hideo Kojima did not confirm that PHYSINT would be an Xbox exclusive. According to him, the decision will be up to Microsoft.

Subsequently, Jason Schreier clarified that Sony’s cancellation of the game did not come out of the blue. Negotiations regarding the title’s future were underway before PlayStation decided to abandon the project. The decision, therefore, did not come out of the blue.

After PHYSINT moved to Xbox, relations between PlayStation and Kojima Productions appeared to be more than strained. For starters, Jason Schreier had explained that sales of Death Stranding 2, the budget requested by the studio, and changes in Sony’s policies had led to this situation.

Now, the company led by Hideo Kojima has chosen to speak out to try to clarify all these rumors. The statement from Kojima Productions clarifies that claims regarding its split with PlayStation do not come from an official source and encourages fans to take these rumors "with a dose of skepticism."

The studio says it is in a "healthy, profitable" state and that its relationship with PlayStation "remains strong".

"Normally, we would not comment on unsubstantiated speculation on the internet, but these aspersions around our relationship with PlayStation, the commercial performance of the DEATH STRANDING franchise, and the broader production planning and investment for PHYSINT, have reached beyond the studio and have touched our fans, our creative partners, and colleagues we have worked alongside with for three decades.

None of the claims written came from any official or on-the-record source and as such we encourage you to take them with a dose of scepticism.

Make no mistake, this was a serious situation for the studio with a range of potentially significant implications. While we recognise that the article may have caused alarm, we want to reassure you all, for the record: that the studio is in a healthy, profitable state, development for PHYSINT continues to move forward with XBOX, and our relationship with PlayStation remains strong."
