Denuvo is after a hacker who released cracks to remove DRM protection from several games
, by Thibaut
Let's be honest: Denuvo has never had good press. The anti-piracy software is known for heavily impacting the performance of certain PC games, and that's why gamers tend to criticize it being in new releases.
In 2025, a community of hackers specializing in video games developed a method to bypass the security controls imposed by Denuvo by installing a driver at the computer’s kernel level. A total of 26 games benefited from this workaround. The list includes major titles such as 007 First Light, Stellar Blade, Pragmata, Hogwarts Legacy, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Resident Evil Requiem.
Consequently, Denuvo filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against the user voices38. This “unknown person or entity” is accused of "circumventing the Denuvo anti-piracy system, thereby bypassing DRM restrictions, removing copyright protections that limit unauthorized access, and enabling the creation and distribution of pirated versions". Damages are being sought. An injunction preventing the individual from "circumventing Denuvo’s Anti-Tamper in any past, present, or future video game" could also be issued.
For now, voices38 is only known by their Discord and Reddit usernames and the seven accounts associated so far with them.
