Valve doesn't want to discourage developers from using AI-generated content

Last week, a developer declared that his game had not been approved by Steam. The fault lay with elements generated by artificial intelligence, and at the time, Valve was pointing the finger at copyright concerns surrounding such assets.

In a recent press release published by the VGC website, the American firm clarified its position. Its aim is not to ban all games that use AI... Valve even encourages creators to use this process.

"We welcome and encourage innovation, and AI technology is bound to create new and exciting experiences in gaming. While developers can use these AI technologies in their work with appropriate commercial licenses, they can not infringe on existing copyrights."

We can therefore assume that Valve will proceed on a case-by-case basis, and that games will be denied when the copyright of certain elements cannot be clearly identified.
