NetEase will cut funding to Nagoshi Studio (Gang of Dragon) in May
, by Thibaut
We just got some very worrying news from Nagoshi Studio. Led by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, the company announced the game Gang of Dragon last December at The Game Awards.
Now, Bloomberg reports that NetEase Games will stop funding the studio starting in May. The Chinese giant has changed its strategy in recent months and now seems to be focusing its efforts on a smaller number of projects.
Nagoshi Studio was established in 2021 and could close its doors in a few weeks. According to this information, NetEase learned that additional funding of at least 7 billion yen ($44.4 million) would be necessary for the game to be completed.
Now, Toshihiro Nagoshi must search for a publisher or new investor to keep the studio alive. Gang of Dragon belongs to the developer, but will have to cover all development costs starting in May.
