All Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 assets were created by humans

After its incredible success at the 2025 Game Awards, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 found itself at the center of a controversy related to artificial intelligence. The title got disqualified from the Indie Game Awards for AI usage.
Social media was ablaze with the issue, and Guillaume Broche, founder of Sandfall Interactive, stepped in to clarify matters. During a Q&A session, the French developer stated that all elements in the game were created by the developers.
"Yes, we are aware of what happened with that. But I can say that everything in the game was created by humans. When AI started being used in 2022, we were already in full development. It was just a new tool we tried, and we didn't like it at all. It didn't feel right to us. We used it as a placeholder for textures we had forgotten, but we removed those elements when we realized it. But yes, the voices, the concept art, everything was done by humans.
It is very difficult to predict what the future of the video game industry will look like, but everything we achieve will be done by humans."
