Take-Two almost saved the Perfect Dark reboot
, by Thibaut
Perfect Dark may have been spared from its sad fate following the announcement of its cancellation and the closure of The Initiative studio last July. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier has revealed that the project could have been saved.
Crystal Dynamics, which was involved in the development of Perfect Dark, was looking for a new partner to bring the game to life. Embracer, the British studio's parent company, was on the verge of reaching an agreement with Take-Two Interactive. The latter would have bought the game from Microsoft in order to finance and publish it.
Unfortunately, the talks fell through as Take-Two and Xbox failed to agree on the long-term rights to the Perfect Dark franchise. The failure of the negotiations forced Crystal Dynamics to abandon the project entirely and lay off an unspecified number of developers.
