RE Engine will allow for a more realistic hair rendering on Pragmata
, by Thibaut
First used in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017, the RE Engine is now used in all Capcom titles. Dragon's Dogma 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and even Street Fighter 6 were also done using this highly versatile tool.
The RE Engine will also make a comeback in Pragmata, Capcom's new license set to be released in 2026. In an interview with VGC, producer Naoto Oyama discussed the benefits of this engine, which can be used on all styles of games. Its use in Pragmata will bring a very specific improvement to the Japanese publisher's future games.
"The RE Engine is, first of all, something that we’ve all really built to create something that’s important for us as a backbone for our games. And so, with that, we also have the ability to always request stuff when we want to add this or that to the RE Engine. One of these which is visually easy to understand is Diana’s hair, which is made up of strands."
"We’ve had games in the past that sort of used shorter hair technology, but this long hair that you see with Diana is something that we’ve finally been able to do with Pragmata, so we’ve had the help from the RE Engine team to create this."
Thanks to Pragmata, the characters in Capcom's upcoming titles will be able to sport long, realistic-looking hair too.
