NVIDIA denies the existence of backdoors in its GPUs

In response to suspicions raised by certain authorities, particularly in China, NVIDIA has issued an official statement categorically denying the presence of backdoors, kill switches, or spyware in its graphics cards.

The manufacturer claims that such features would pose a major security risk, citing critical vulnerabilities such as Spectre and Meltdown to illustrate the dangers of deliberately vulnerable hardware.

"There are no backdoors in NVIDIA chips. No kill switches. No spyware. That's not how you build trusted systems—and it never will be."

NVIDIA reiterates its commitment to open software, even though in practice, the community often finds that the company remains less open than some of its competitors.

Despite this clear denial, there are some doubt on the matter still, and total transparency on hardware components remains difficult to demonstrate.
