Hit by historic losses, Ubisoft will refocus on Assassin's Creed and free-to-play games
, by Thibaut
Things are going (very) badly for Ubisoft. The French publisher has just released its results for the last financial year (April 2022 - March 2023). The multinational company records €585.8 million in operating losses and €494.7 million in net losses. The revenue of €1.81 billion represents a decline of approximately -15% compared to last year. This is one of the worst financial statements in the history of the company led by Yves Guillemot.
The company will therefore proceed with a new cost reduction of over €200 million. This will be done through layoffs and a realignment of its catalog. Indeed, Ubisoft plans to focus on free-to-play games and the Assassin's Creed franchise in the future. For this purpose, the teams dedicated to the development of episodes in the saga will increase by 40% in the coming years. On the other hand, the launch of Assassin's Creed Mirage is still scheduled for the current financial year. Thus, it will be released before March 31, 2024.
