Today, Windows Central journalist Jez Corden returned to the subject of the game's cancellation during the Xbox Two Podcast. According to him, Microsoft had to make a decision between spending money on a new license that would compete with World of Warcraft or focusing on a successful franchise.
"From what I heard, it was a case of tradeoffs and that the program to expand Fallout 5, and just Fallout in general, that’s where they’ve decide to make the investments and where the money will be translated into more of a surefire win."
Corden also claims that Microsoft has given the green light to Fallout 5 to enter full production. There are also some questions of wheter make a new studio to do some Fallout content.
