, by Quentin
AMD has announced its new generation of Threadripper 9000 processors, based on the Zen 5 architecture. Two ranges are on the program: the PRO WX series for workstations, and the X non-PRO series for HEDT platforms.
The flagship model is the Threadripper PRO 9995WX, with 96 Zen 5 cores, 384 MB L3 cache and a boost frequency of up to 5.4 GHz. It will be accompanied by 64-core (9985WX), 32-core (9975WX) and 24-core (9965WX) variants. All these chips use socket sTR5 and are compatible with TRX50 motherboards, supporting up to 128 PCIe Gen5 lines.
The non-PRO Threadripper 9000 series will include 32-core (9970X) and 24-core (9960X) models, with support for DDR5-6400 memory on 4 channels, compared with 8 for the PRO series.
Launch is scheduled for July. We don't know the prices yet, but both series will be available for the mass market with a separate packaging.
