Kojima wants to divide with his games, not appeal to the masses

The famous Japanese creator made a number of interesting statements in his latest interview with Edge magazine. For example, Hideo Kojima talked about the ideas he will leave behind once he's six feet under and how his games will be received.
While he acknowledged his desire to see a large number of gamers try out his titles, Kojima also expressed his desire not to please everyone. In playtests of his latest games, four out of ten people loved the experience, and six thought it sucked. For the Japanese director, this is "a good balance".
But with Death Stranding 2, the in-house playtests were more flattering. So much so, that it almost seems to bother Hideo Kojima.
"Sony is satisfied, of course, but I wish there had been more controversy. Successful films need an 80% approval rating. I don't want to make games like that. I'm not looking to please the mass market or sell millions of copies. That's not my goal."
