To help Helldivers 2 get back on track, the devs draw inspiration from No Man's Sky

While Helldivers 2 had an excellent launch, it wasn't long until it lost the confidence of gamers. This was due to some dubious decisions, particularly on the part of Sony, which wanted to impose a mandatory PSN connection to play on PC.
The current CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Jorjani, looks back on this difficult period in an interview with The Game Business. In particular, he recalls the discussion he had at the time with Hermen Hulst, the boss of PlayStation Studios.
"Maybe the lowest point during my tenure so far. I had to explain to the CEO why things were in the state they were, and what we were going to do to recover. And I had to say the awkward truth that there is nothing we can do in the short term. But in the long term, we have plans that will get us back on track."
"I was inspired by No Man's Sky and the team over there. They had a similar journey. The game was hyped, then bombed, and then they put the head to the grindstone and just updated the game."
Fortunately, Helldivers 2 was soon back on track. By last May, the game had already sold over 12 million copies.
