Nightdive Studios says it's ready to remaster games from the PS3 / Xbox 360 era
, by Thibaut
For several years now, Nightdive Studios has specialized in remastering games. Most notably, the American company has worked on The Thing, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Turok, DOOM 64 and Quake II.
In an interview with the VGC website, Nightdive boss Stephen Kick made it clear that he wanted to modernize titles released on PS3 and Xbox 360. Indeed, many of the great games of that era have never been remade.
While he says he's ready, the main interested party also said that a remaster would depend on whether or not the source code of the original game is there, and on its quality. Kick cited Haze, a game published by Ubisoft and developed by Free Radical Design, released in 2008. The game was a critical and commercial disappointment. So, he explains, it could be difficult to convince the rights holder to give a title like this another chance.
Moreover, PS3 games represent a real challenge, given the machine's extremely complex architecture. However, Kick believes that Nightdive would be able to overcome this difficulty and produce remasters of titles from Sony's third home console.
