Shuhei Yoshida reflects on the failure of Dreams, Media Molecule's latest game

Available since February 2020, almost five years after its initial announcement, Dreams was not the success we had hoped for. Media Molecule's title quickly fizzled out, despite the many creative possibilities it offered.
In a new interview, Shuhei Yoshida, who recently left PlayStation, spoke of this failure and the fact that the game was never ported to other media platforms.
"Dreams was [an] amazing project, and we had a huge ambition... It's a great game-making tool, so I was hoping we [would be able] to release it, after PlayStation, on PC, and after PC, on mobile, and [allow] anyone to use the tools to create games. Somehow, we couldn't get that to realise."
According to Yoshida, this abandonment was caused by "a mixture of technical and business reasons". Dreams didn't even get a proper PS5 version. The game's follow-up was stopped in September 2023 and Media Molecule laid off part of its workforce the following month.
