Sony has announced its financial results for the quarter ending September 30. Over this period, the company's “games and services” division achieved sales of $7 billion, up 12% year-on-year.
Operating income was $900 million, an increase of 184%. The company has therefore revised its sales estimates for the current year upwards by 4%. Sales of third-party games played a major role in these excellent results. In particular, EA Sports FC 25 and Black Myth: Wukong were mentioned (without being directly quoted) by the manufacturer.
The health of the hardware side is a little less good, with 3.8 million PS5s shipped, equivalent to a 29% drop compared to this time last year. This did not prevent the PlayStation 5 from peaking at 65.5 million units sold worldwide. Four years after its launch, the PS4 reached 67.5 million units.
Finally, revenues from network services, which include PlayStation Plus and advertising, were up by 18%, and the number of active users by 8%. Total playing time even increased by 14%.
