Netflix invests in generative AI for video games
, by Quentin
In October, Netflix announced the closure of its internal studio, Team Blue, dedicated to the development of video games for the streaming platform. This decision suggested that Netflix was going to reduce its ambitions in the gaming field.
However, it seems that is not the case, as the company is now investing in generative AI to facilitate video game development. This is what Mike Verdú, new vice president of this branch at Netflix, revealed in a post on LinkedIn:
"At long last, I am ready to talk about what I'm doing next: I am working on driving a 'once in a generation' inflection point for game development and player experiences using generative AI. This transformational technology will accelerate the velocity of development and unlock truly novel game experiences that will surprise, delight, and inspire players."
He concludes by reacting to rumors about Netflix's possible withdrawal from the video game sector:
"Pay no mind to the uninformed speculation in the media about the changes in Netflix Games. What you've seen over the last several months was actually a planned transition."
We'll see what the platform has in store for us with the use of AI and how it will integrate it into its future creations.
