Sony reportedly decided to close Japan Studio because its games didn't selling

Back in April 2021, Sony announced the closure of Japan Studios. This was a heartbreaker for many, who enjoyed some artsy experiences from the Japanese company.

This group of devs have a hand on games such as The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush, Knack, Puppeteer, Patapon and LocoRoco. Yes, those games are far from being among the most known, and that's precisely why PlayStation shut it all down.

According to Shawn Layden, former President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America and President of Worldwide Studios, Japan Studio was closed due to the lack of commercial success of its creations.

"It's tough when a studio hasn't had a hit for a while, then they forget how that feels."
