Sony wanted exclusivity for Crimson Desert, but Pearl Abyss refused

It's not strange for the companies behind consoles to pay third-party studios and publishers for exclusives. Sony is no stranger to this, having recently attempted to secure Crimson Desert, the open-world action-adventure title from Pearl Abyss.

In a recent report, the studio claims to have been approached by PlayStation with a view to claim the console exclusivity for the PS5 for a limited time. Xbox gamers would have been temporarily deprived of the game.

In the end, Pearl Abyss says it refused the offer, preferring instead to self-publish. With this strategy, and in the event of commercial success, the studio expects to earn higher profits.
