Samsung spends $20 million on AMD MI300X GPUs for AI development
, by Quentin
Samsung kicks off the week with some major spending, signing a deal worth over $20 million with AMD to acquire MI300X GPUs to be used to equip its data centers, dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence.
Like other giants, Samsung is also focusing on the development of artificial intelligence, and so needs a great deal of computing power to run its systems. While some companies have opted for NVIDIA's H100 GPUs, Samsung has preferred to turn to AMD.
This is an interesting choice for Samsung, as AMD's MI300X is sold several times cheaper than its competitor, the H100. As a reminder, AMD's flagship GPU was released at the end of 2023 and integrates 19,456 stream processors, 304 compute units and 192 GB of HBM3 memory.
