Square Enix didn't want Final Fantasy characters to appear in Astro Bot

There's plenty of cameos in Astro Bot, and all kinds of franchises who have shaped PlayStation's history appear in the form of bots to be found throughout all the levels.

However, there are some big misses, such as the Final Fantasy franchise, and more specifically Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. In an interview with Game File, Nicolas Doucet, president of Team Asobi, was quick to address the subject.

"It's difficult to comment on that. We really respect the choice of each publisher."

Doucet's statement seems to imply that Square Enix didn't give permission for Sony to include Final Fantasy references in Astro Bot.
