GTA V has lost 40% of its userbase on PC following the addition of an anti-cheat software

Earlier this week, Rockstar Games added the BattlEye anti-cheat software to Grand Theft Auto V on PC. The effect seems to have been immediate, as the number of players has fallen sharply.

According to SteamDB, GTA V has lost around 40% of its players in the last few hours. It has dropped from an average of approximately 140,000 simultaneous users to 84,000. At the time of writing this, the Steam version had just over 90,000 simultaneous players.

This drop is mainly due to the fact that many mods stopped working properly with the inclusion of BattlEye. For example, the Kiddions menu, which makes it easy to manage mods, is no longer usable.
