Sony increases the price of the PS5 and its accesories in Japan by quite a lot
, by Thibaut
While companies use to lower the price of their consoles over time, Sony is keen on doing quite the opposite, increasing its prices.
The Japanese company has just announced a substantial price increase for the PS5 in Japan. The model with Blu-ray player will go from 66,980 yen (€413.20) to 79,980 yen (€493.40). As for the version without it, it now costs 72,980 yen (€450.21) instead of 59,980 yen (€370.02).
And that's not all: the price of controllers, the PlayStation Portal, the Pulse Elite wireless headset and even the PlayStation VR2 will increase too. To explains these changes, Sony points to a "difficult external environment" and "the global economic situation". The price increases will take effect from September 2.
For the time being, this is only for the Japanese market.
