The FTC attacks Microsoft over Game Pass price increase

The war between Microsoft and the FTC following the takeover of Activision Blizzard King is far from over. The agency has appealed the decision and expects a new verdict in the coming weeks.

In any case, the FTD kept attacking the American company after the announcement of Xbox Game Pass price increases to take place next September.

"Product degradation—removing the most valuable games from Microsoft’s new service—combined with price increases for existing users, is exactly the sort of consumer harm from the merger the FTC has alleged."

In addition, the agency also criticized the great wave of layoffs, noting that the price hikes and the disappearance of the console tier coincide both with Call of Duty coming to the service.

Finally, the FTC also pointed to the differences between the promises made by Microsoft during the hearings and the actions taken by the company once the takeover got the green light.
