Microsoft speaks out on the closure of Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin

Sarah Bond was questioned on a number of subjects during her interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft's Game Pass and mobile gaming strategy were among the main points of the interview.

However, the Xbox president couldn't avoid answering a question about Bethesda Softworks' four studios being closed this week. Bond simply said she wanted to ensure the long-term health of the gaming division. She also spoke of stagnation within the industry.

“It’s always extraordinarily hard when you have to make decisions like that [...] when we look at those fundamental trends, we feel a deep responsibility to ensure that the games we make, the devices we build, the services that we offer are there through moments, even when the industry isn’t growing and you’re through a time of transition."

"And the news we announced earlier this week is an outcome of that, and our commitment to make sure that the business is healthy for the long term.”

Sarah Bond added that several factors are taken into account when deciding whether or not to close a studio. She also stated that the sole aim of this was to assure Xbox a more stable future.
