Microsoft has closed Tango Gameworks (Hi-Fi RUSH) and Arkane Austin (Redfall)

Microsoft has just purged Bethesda Softworks of four of its studios. In an e-mail obtained by IGN, Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty announced the closure of the teams responsible for the excellent Hi-Fi RUSH and the mixed Redfall.

Founded in October 1999 and March 2010 respectively, Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks are no more. Booty says it has taken this decision in order to "prioritizing high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda’s portfolio”. Devs will be reassigned to other projects within the company, and an unknown number will be made redundant.

Alpha Dog Studios, a company specializing in the creation of mobile games such as Mighty DOOM, will also close on August 7. Roundhouse Games will merge with ZeniMax Online Studios (The Elder Scrolls Online).

Arkane Studios has took to social networks to confirm the information. We also learn that development of Redfall has been definitively halted, and that the game will get no further content. The additional playable characters that were to be included in the Hero Pass have been cancelled. Of course, pass owners may be reimbursed and servers will remain active. Tango Gameworks also spoke to make its closure official.
