The update that would let you play Redfall offline was due in May

Microsoft has closed Arkane Austin, and so any hope for redemption for Redfall has gone down the drain. The game won't get any more content or even updates. The servers still remain active, though.

Among the main criticisms for the game, many complained about the mandatory Internet connection, even if you were playing solo. It was something that the devs were working to remove after launch.

According to IGN, this patch was scheduled for this month, along with other fixes and new features. What's more, the two remaining heroes were due to arrive around Halloween.

Of course, this won't be the case, what with the studio closing and all that. If Microsoft was to close the Redfall servers, the game would become unplayable.
