Phil Spencer speaks out on a possible portable Xbox
, by Thibaut
During an interview with Polygon, the president of Microsoft Gaming couldn't escape the hottest topic of the moment. Phil Spencer spoke about how he would like to improve the Xbox gamer experience with different types of devices, including handhelds.
First and foremost, Spencer spoke about how the teams at Microsoft's hardware division are considering designing "different kinds of devices" with the aim of reaching a wider audience. He also praised the handheld PC by Valve, Asus and Lenovo.
But when asked whether Microsoft planned to manufacture its own handheld console, Phil tried to sidestep the question, stating that he wanted to build on existing devices.
"Forget about the brand. More like: Are all of my games there? Do all my games show up with the save [files] that I want? I want to be able to boot into the Xbox app in a full screen, but in a compact mode. And all of my social experience is there. Like I want it to feel like the dash of my Xbox when I turn on the television."
So, for the time being, Spencer seems to be banking on an optimal Xbox experience on existing third-party products such as the Steam Deck or the Asus ROG Ally. However, rumor has it that Microsoft is currently testing prototypes of native handheld consoles.
