Remedy wants a more regular cadence of sequels for Alan Wake and Control
, by Thibaut
On Wednesday, Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala spoke about his company's future. Indeed, the Finnish studio intends to bank on sequels to two of its franchises: Control and Alan Wake.
"[...] our ambition is to grow them into franchises that have high brand recognition, steadily growing user base, more regular cadence of sequels and an ability to generate revenues and profits at a high level."
Virtala also pointed out that Control 2 is still in the midst of a feasibility study, while teams have been working on the title's combat system and universe design. Meanwhile, Condor (the cooperative multiplayer spin-off of Control) and Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake are preparing to go into production. The development budget for the remake of the first two Max Payne games is likely to be similar to that of Alan Wake 2.
We have also learned that in 2023, Remedy's revenues fell by 22.2% compared with the previous year. They fell to 33.9 million euros from 43.6 million in 2022. This despite the release of the second Alan Wake last October. The company explains this drop by "increased investment" in its games.
