An NPC in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown speaks via text-to-speech
, by Quentin
It was IGN that noticed that one of the NPCs in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown speaks through text-to-speech rather than be voiced by a real person. To be sure, IGN recreated the in-game voice using a TTS (Text-to-Speech) program available free online and it produced similar results.
The journalists then contacted Ubisoft about the matter, who immediately confirmed the use of TTS, particularly ahead of the final game's release. Here's their statement:
"During the development process of a game, some teams use multiple placeholder assets, including text to speech voiceover, until final dubbing is delivered. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is fully voice-overed in English, French, Spanish, German and Farsi with more than 12,000 lines in total. It is also subtitled in Italian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Polish and Japanese."
According to IGN, a patch with the final voices is coming later this month or early February.
