Cancelled Sonic 2 levels discovered

Released back in 1992 on the Mega Drive, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is still revealing a few secrets 31 years later. The Video Games History Foundation has unearthed several levels that were abandoned during development.

The first is called Cyber City Zone. It was recreated using documents by artist Tom Payne and a level map designed by Hirokazu Yasuhara. By combining these elements, we obtain the general structure of the stage.

We also learn that three other levels were cancelled. One called Wood Zone, another taking place in a desert called Sand Shower Zone and one under the snow. The latter was previously unknown.
