For the producer of The Legend of Zelda, linear entries are a thing of the past

In an interview with IGN, Eiji Aonuma talks about the past and present of The Legend of Zelda and the desire of some players to enjoy a new linear title.

According to the producer, games in which the player has to perform tasks in a set order and with guidance belong to the past. Aonuma believes that today's games must "accept a player's own decisions and give them the freedom to flexibly proceed through the game".

However, Eiji Aonuma also says he understands "the desire for nostalgia" of gamers who would like to see an old-fashioned Zelda again. A game of this type could end up seeing the light of day in the more or less distant future.
