Final Fantasy XVI sales fall short of Square Enix's expectations
, by Thibaut
Praised by critics and the majority of gamers alike, Final Fantasy XVI was not as successful as the Japanese publisher had hoped.
In fact, Square Enix announced that in the second quarter of 2023, its revenues increased by 14% year-on-year but, unfortunately, profits fell by around 65%. The main culprit was Final Fantasy XVI, which failed to meet the Japanese company's expectations.
As a result, Square Enix's share price fell by 15%, from ¥6,366 to ¥5,561 (at the time of writing).
